The Masquerade Ball

These masks have to come off, not one but all,
The false faces concealed beneath this ruthless skin.
Everyday, a new masquerade ball,
Fake bodies gliding, such effortless sin.

Zombies, each one of us.
Phony smiles, pretty disguises,
Guilt, shame, sympathy, trust-
All lies in motley shapes and sizes.

A fleeting glimpse of forethought i seek,
An unfeigned twinkle of the eye,
This venom, such acid, draw my senses meek-
Not a scruple found, nor a mortified sigh.

These masks, these cloaks, these drapes, these robes.
Melted malign these parasites soak-
Gnawing, eroding every fleck of truth,
Seeping deep - all soul uncouth.

A freedom delayed, an exemption denied,
This clinging grime is a bounded dose.
Persist and lose all in sight.
Resign and attain a content repose.

Piece of art... keep it in a museum. Apni tashreef ke saath..
Couldn't locate the 'benign' part, though... more like an outburst of pent- up somethings.
A certain bitterness that hits the reader right in the face comes steaming out of the poem..

The anal-ytics:
Excellent use of metaphors, letting out of the layered stress would have bin such a relief, i presume. Adjectives are used in plenty and very well put to use..

I second berryice in her first statement...

A very sly, and potent compilation.

PS: I wish you drag your lines a bit, and then end with a crisp slaughter. Waiting to read your follow up.

A tremendous effort to expose the masks we all dawn...to be wanted...to be accepted...to be forgiven...to be forgotten...

We all fall prey to deceit...in all walks of life...coz we seek solace in our temporary pursuit of happiness, but the aftershocks jolt us years later when the pursuit is no longer happiness...but a habit...

Always knew she had a creative side to her...m sure she'l convert this into one of her OCs someday...

hey Kiran...

welll.... I am not much into prose and poetry...however tried ma level best to figure out your creation...
could grasp as much as my limited grey cells allowed.I am sure everybody must have loved it.

very aesthetic blog template. the choice of the Header image/artwork with the use of certain colours makes it really impressive.

what i loved the most is the way you have penned down your profile...especially the part..."not your dumb 21 year old ....shopping".

lovely initiative....keep me posted on any updates....

(forgive the cynic in me.)

i liked it, but its far too much a lament for lost hopes. or ones that never were. dont take it the wrong way, i've had these observations myself, and you've put them out, expressed them in a way my limited vocabulary never could.

more of this, perchance?

Quite a prodigious relay of some of the obscure emotions of a complex heart! I am enamored of "Wisps of Smoke". I think by far its your magnum opus. And yes am sharing that with my friends.
Cheers!
